35th NepalDay: Longing for Change - Just a Dream? Event in Cologne, Germany

The German-Nepalese Society (Deutsch-Nepalische Gesellschaft e.V.) is organizing the 35th NepalDay on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 9am to 6pm at the Rautenstrauch-Joost-Museum in Cologne, Germany.

The day-long event will feature an engaging program discussing politics, economy, health, culture and tourism in Nepal under the theme "Longing for Change - Just a Dream?". Notable guests from Nepal's government, business, medical and cultural spheres will share their insights.

The morning will commence with welcome remarks by renowned Nepali singers like Ani Choying Dolma, along with dignitaries including the Honorary Consul General Ram Pratap Thapa, Nepali Ambassador Ram Kaji Khadka, German Ambassador Dr. Thomas Prinz and others.

Panel discussions will delve into the state of Nepali democracy and potential for change, foreign direct investment, the role of the Nepali diaspora by various guests, and perspectives on Nepal's economic development by Madhu S. Bajgain. Highlighting the Nepali diaspora's attempts to keep Nepal clean from waste, mayors from Chitwan - Sashi K. Khaniya, Prahlad Sapkota, and Deputy Mayor Kabita Upreti, along with youth leaders Naresh Hamal, Bed Bahadur Adhikari, Shankar Kandel and Dipak Raj Poudel, will discuss their vision for clean cities.

The health segment features updates on Nepal's healthcare system and the dream of improved emergency medical services by medical experts like Dr. Arne Drews, Dr. Frank Seiler and Dr. Sanjaya Karki.

Cultural highlights encompass a yoga and meditation session by Om Sharma, traditional music performances, a reading by author Andie Arndt, discussions on Nepali cuisine in Germany, gender laws, trekking experiences and the outlook for Nepal's tourism industry.

The museum foyer will host exhibition stalls showcasing Nepali handicrafts, books, herbs and felt products. Vibrant dance performances by Kamala Dahal's team will enliven the atmosphere.

Participation costs €20 per person, €15 for society members, and is free for children under 10. Registration is required via email to info@deutsch-nepal.de.

The Annual General Meeting for members will take place the following day, Sunday, May 26th from 10am to 12:30pm, with a film screening from 11am onwards.
