British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said his government will enhance cooperation with Nepal in areas like climate change, trade, and investment as the two countries marked the 100th anniversary of their Treaty of Friendship.

Speaking at an event organized by Nepal's embassy in London, Sunak stated that Britain stands ready to assist Nepal in tackling climate change challenges. "Britain is ready for cooperation in the field of climate change," he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted that future Britain-Nepal ties will see stronger economic relations through increased trade and investment linkages. He praised the role of "British Gurkhas" in strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two nations, noting their significant contributions.

Recalling King Charles III's past visit to Nepal when he was the Prince of Wales, Sunak said he was inspired by the work and achievements of the Nepali diaspora in various fields in Britain.

British Foreign Office Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan assured that the UK will continue supporting Nepal's development goals to further bolster the close bilateral ties. "The UK will help Nepal in its goal of becoming a middle-income country," she stated.

On behalf of Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Ambassador Gyan Chandra Acharya conveyed best wishes to his British counterpart Sunak during the centenary event.

The program, attended by the Nepali community, former Gurkhas, British parliamentarians, officials and business leaders, as well as actress Manisha Koirala, commemorated 100 years since the Nepal-Britain Treaty of Friendship was signed in 1923.
